How to Use an Avalanche Transceiver?
• Carry Your TransceiverYou must properly carry your pack light to avoid it being separated from you during an avalanche. Most manufacturers including Black Diamond, Mammut, Bca, Pomoca, and Arva provide a harness or carrying system that allows you to carry your transceiver close to your body. It is recommended that you wear it underneath your outer layer of clothing.
• Learn and practice
It’s critical that you learn and practice how to use your transceiver. You should read the transceiver manual and regularly practice the Bca rescue package, probe, and shovel to become an expert.
• Always keep a transceiver in send mode
It is decisive to keep the transceiver in “transmit” mode at all times.
• Beware Of electronic interference
You should not carry other electronic devices such as radios or cell phones close to your Arva safety pack transceiver as they can hinder the search and convey signals.
